Glühwein mit Schuss - welche Spirituose passt?

Mulled wine with a shot - which spirit for which mulled wine?

The cold months are here, and with it the time to sit together comfortably and enjoy a warming mulled wine. But why not increase the enjoyment by adding a small pinch of shot to your mulled wine? We'll tell you which three popular spirits in Germany go perfectly with the common types of mulled wine.

brown rum for red mulled wine

For the classic red mulled wine, which is flavored with spices such as cinnamon and cloves, we recommend a pinch of rum. The dark, spicy taste of the rum goes perfectly with the depth of the red wine and the Christmas spices. A brown rum, preferably from the Caribbean, brings a pleasant sweetness and a slightly nutty note to the mulled wine. Simply add a shot of rum to your cup of mulled wine and you'll experience a pleasant, warm taste experience.

Amaretto for white mulled wine

White mulled wine, often based on Riesling or other white grape varieties, has a fruitier and lighter note compared to its red relative. A shot of Amaretto is ideal for this mulled wine. The sweet, almondy taste of the amaretto perfectly complements the fruity nuances of the white mulled wine. Simply pour a touch of Amaretto into your cup and indulge in the sweet taste.

Raspberry spirit for rosé mulled wine

Rosé mulled wine brings a certain elegance and freshness. The berry flavors go wonderfully with a touch of raspberry spirit. This German fruit brandy gives the rosé mulled wine a fruity and slightly floral note that goes perfectly with a winter evening. A small dash of raspberry spirit provides a subtle elevation of the flavor profile.

While adding these spirits to your mulled wine, be careful to maintain balance. A small splash is enough to enhance the mulled wine without overpowering it. Ultimately, it's about complementing the flavors and increasing enjoyment, not dominating the mulled wine.

In Germany we are lucky to have a variety of delicious spirits to choose from. So why not experiment with a few drops and take your mulled wine tradition to the next level this winter? Cheers and a wonderful pre-Christmas season!

Let us know what spirits you add to your mulled wine and how you like it. We look forward to your feedback and cheers to a warming winter!
